Applications

Used as a Service & Maintenance tool, an emission analyzer can help a technician diagnose combustion problems, optimize fuel efficiency, and maximize combustion system performance, often paying for itself within a short period of time. Maintenance applications typically include boiler efficiency testing, burner set-up, and servicing of reciprocating natural gas, propane, diesel engines and turbines. The most popular models in this category are the ECOM CN, ECOM CL and ECOM EN2.

The 1990 Clean Air Act and subsequent environmental legislation has driven the demand for affordable, reliable emission testing technologies. Many State and Regional Environmental Regulatory Agencies have adopted more stringent environmental guidelines. ECOM offers Environmental Compliance level analyzers to meet these stricter requirements and testing protocols. These analyzers incorporate extensive EPA recognized sample conditioning systems and features required under EPA protocols for portable analyzers. These models include the ECOM J2KN and ECOM J2KN-IND.

Many ECOM analyzers are used in the Research & Performance Testing of Pollution Control Technologies being developed around the world. Whether it is after-treatment devices such as catalytic converters or oxidation catalysts, engine modifications, fuel delivery components, biofuels, or fuel additives, measuring the emissions prior to and after the introduction of these technologies is critical to determining their effectiveness.  Commonly used are the ECOM J2KN, ECOM VETS and ECOM RACK.

Vehicle Fleet Diagnostics is simplified with ECOM VETS, Vehicle Emissions Test System. VETS is a complete emission monitoring and record keeping system designed for the emissions based maintenance programs used extensively in the mining industry and applicable to all Heavy-duty diesel powered fleets. VETS is simple to use, and can provide incredible fuel and maintenance savings when properly applied.

ECOM’s Stationary Equipment Emission Analyzer finds use as an affordable alternative to many traditional CEMS applications. The SEEA system is capable of monitoring up to 4 separate combustion systems, recording all measured data, or transmitting data via analog or MODBUS output. Optional loop feedback is available for SCR control to provide continuous Pollution Control on regulated combustion systems.

The ECOM Difference
All Emission Analyzers are not created Equal!

Proper Sample Conditioning is an important function of portable electrochemical sensor based analyzers. What truly sets ECOM analyzers apart from our competitors is the importance we have placed on sample conditioning and gas delivery techniques. Ensuring a consistently cool and dry gas sample to the sensors is crucial to long term reliability and accuracy of the analyzer. Our analyzers incorporate sample conditioning features not found on any other brand of portable emission analyzers available today, including high flow pumps and radiant or thermoelectric gas coolers with automatically draining moisture traps.

Because the sample gas is properly conditioned and controlled prior to introduction to the sensors, the typical life of the sensors in ECOM analyzers is usually much longer, calibration stability much better, and sensor stability more consistent, than that of our competitors, resulting in lower lifetime maintenance costs.

The components and features of ECOM analyzers listed below will assure you of accurate and reliable emission testing data.

  • Heated Sample Lines: A custom length, self-regulating heated line is available for use with the J2KN, VETS, RACK, and SEEA models. This line operates on 110 VAC, and has internal temperature controls to maintain the gas temperature above the dew point, eliminating condensation in the sample line.

  • Thermoelectric Peltier Cooler: After traveling through the heated line, the sample gas enters the temperature controlled cooler, (maintained at 40 - 45 deg. F), where the moisture in the gas quickly condenses and is trapped in the water trap bowl.

  • Peristaltic Pump: This pump automatically removes condensate from the water trap, minimizing the sample gas / moisture contact.

  • Flow Meter: Flow meters are installed in-line, so operators are assured consistent flow of gas between calibrations and testing.
Pressure Control is regulated by ECOM’s patented internal gas manifold system. All ECOM analyzers use a proprietary sensor manifold and pressure control device to deliver a precise sample of gas to each individual sensor.

Other unique features of ECOM analyzers are:
Temperature Compensation and Cross Interference Software Matrices, Convenient NOx calculation on the display, Automatic CO bypass automatically switches CO ranges, and prior to over-range conditions, purges sensor block with fresh air in order to avoid saturation. Programmable settings for ppm, pounds per million Btu, milligrams per cubic meter, plus Windows based Data Acquisition Software which provides exceptional graphics, automatic spreadsheet formulation, and calculation of emissions rates.

From single gas Oxygen and Carbon Monoxide analyzers for flue gas testing to multi-gas analyzers measuring Oxygen, Carbon Monoxide, Nitric Oxide, Nitrogen Dioxide, Sulfur Dioxide, & Hydrocarbons in any combination, we have instruments to offer for most combustion applications.
