VETS consists of an exhaust gas analyzer, an opacity meter (SAE J1667 compliant), a Hydrocarbon analyzer (HFID), and a dedicated computer system, all housed in a portable industrial shop cabinet. Measured parameters include O2, CO, CO2, NOx, Hydrocarbons, Smoke Opacity, Exhaust Temperatures, RPM, and Oil Temperature. The VETS software manages a fleet database and includes every possible identification record, such as vehicle ID, engine type, mileage, shop location, catalytic converter type, etc. Real time gas readings are displayed on the PC, and with a simple click of the mouse, gas and smoke measurements are performed and recorded with test results displayed instantaneously. The VETS software practically automates the emission testing procedure and maintains a historical database for every vehicle in the fleet. VETS system was developed from years of experience using diesel engine emission monitoring as diagnostic tool. This concept, widely used in the underground mining industry, has become known as Emissions Based Maintenance. When combined with a comprehensive maintenance program, companies have achieved reductions of up to 65% on CO and 55% on DPM, without the expense of alternative fuels and after-treatment devices. In addition, a 3% to 5% savings in fuel consumption has been realized, translating to a significant impact on the bottom line. VETS has also been a critical tool for developers of emission control products, capable of providing extensive & reliable emissions data in an easy to use and affordable package.
